[00:07] <Yaijinden> The story starts a bit before. Once upon a time, I was just one more kid fresh out of high school, going to college without any knowledge as to why I was going aside from the vaguest of impressions that university was what you were supposed to do.
[00:07] <Yaijinden> But it was okay, because I had a girlfriend whom I'd been seeing for the past couple of years, and she was there with me and that justified things.
[00:08] * Matsuo Shin sits down almost robotically and slumps
[00:09] <Yaijinden> Between the classes I skipped out of ennui and the directionlessness of life, she was pretty much the reason I got up and out of bed. I thought she was forever. She wasn't under that impression.
[00:10] <Yaijinden> Things went from hot to warm to room temperature to cold before I actually started paying attention. She'd fallen in with people who gave her the sense of rebellion she'd never quite gotten from me. Slept around. Booze, weed, the works.
[00:11] <Yaijinden> One day she tells me she's done with the relationship because I have nothing to offer her anymore. I protest, but I realize pretty soon it's already too late, and I start questioning what the hell I'm doing here, or anywhere.
[00:12] * Matsuo Shin stays slumped
[00:12] <Yaijinden> I'd fallen away from practicing the faith of my fathers: a Christianity that was lifeless, requiring only an affirmation of helplessness in the face of eternity, so I saw nothing for me in divinity.
[00:13] <Yaijinden> My parents and family had resigned themselves to being disappointed in a child who was smart as a whip but unable to do the things smart children were supposed to be good at, which would have justified my weirdness if I had that magic skillset.
[00:15] * @mango-chan frowns
[00:16] <Yaijinden> All the love in the world does not remove that particular stain.
[00:16] <Yaijinden> Bereft of friends, direction, love, or a sense of belonging, one night I let despair move me to the roof of the highest building on campus that I could finagle access. The library, I'm pretty sure.
[00:18] <Yaijinden> One night, lit in the twilight of the omnipresent street lamps, I found my way to the edge of a long fall and reached deep within to find the courage in myself to throw myself over the edge and just end the farce of being alive and useless.
[00:19] <Yaijinden> I reached, and I reached... and I found nothing. For all of the emptiness, I couldn't follow through, just like everything else in life.
[00:20] <Yaijinden> I recoiled from that ledge, and from myself, and cursed my capacity for feeling, because all it did was hurt me... and then there was a voice, like ice.

[04:49] * Newborn Lich takes walks back to the shore, and takes hold of an oxygen tank and mask. He brings it over and places it inside the coffin, next to immobile sacrifice.
