[21:43] *** Apparently, Chateaux was entirely able to scan the hand for little biological sacks that have organic projectiles and infrared sensors that are especially sensitive to different temperatures at close range, and prompt the chemical reaction to create a biological bomb to spread the infection along. The proteins in that hand seem to catalyze breakdown of livign flesh at a horrifying speed. She just doesn't remember any of this.

It does make sense that a body part afflicted with this terrible malady would have been severed in another dimention.

It was definitely designed by an entity pessimistic about the problems the environment suit would face.
